Question 1

Is a notarized letter required?

Accepted Answer

It depends on where you are going and how you are traveling. Airlines, cruise lines and destination countries each set their own rules, and the rules differ. Leonel cannot say whether your trip needs a notarized letter, so ask your airline, cruise line or destination before you book your appointment.

Question 2

Do both parents need to be present?

Accepted Answer

Leonel notarizes the signature of each person who appears in front of him with valid ID. Whether your trip calls for a letter signed by one parent or by both is decided by the airline, cruise line or destination, so check with them. If two people need to sign, tell Leonel when you book.

Question 3

Can you write the letter?

Accepted Answer

No. Leonel Dubon is a Florida notary public, not an attorney, and cannot give legal advice. He does not write, edit or approve the content of your letter. Bring it already prepared. Your airline, cruise line or destination may have its own wording or form to use.

Question 4

What ID do I need?

Accepted Answer

Each signer needs a valid, government-issued photo ID. Our identification requirements page explains which IDs are accepted and how names must match. Please check that your ID has not expired before the appointment.
